A Personal Message from Dan
Below is a message from our fabulous DC-based SiriusXM Producer Dan Henning: Some personal news to share. It's not great up front, but, in the long run, I hope it will be great for me and many others.
This summer, I discovered an odd feeling in my right testicle. It wasn't the smooth ball it has always been. Naturally, like any idiot, I ignored it for a month or two. I continued to notice it more and more... so, I did the right thing and had my doctor look at it.
I am so glad I did.
I will be writing much more about this in the coming months with details, but, long story short is, I have been diagnosed with Stage II Nonseminoma testicular cancer. I had a right testicular orchiectomy on October 11th.
I've always leaned a little to the left anyway, so this is only fitting.
And next, I start chemotherapy on Monday.
But, this thing has a 90%+ survival rate, and I very much plan to slay this dragon if I have any say in the matter. I know I'll make it because I have an incredible support system. My family, my friends, my work, my fire departments, all have been absolutely incredible.
Here's where the good is going to come: I want to help as many people as possible, from checking themselves in the shower (I think I want to make the hashtag #CheckYourBoysInTheShower a thing) to knowing you are not alone in this type of battle.
I have the power of the microphone and the media to do this. I’ll be talking about this with Michael on SiriusXM’s POTUS Channel 124 this morning. If I can help even save one life by using my voice, it will be worth it, and I will feel incredible.
Lastly, I had my last pre-chemo dinner with my Tuesday Night Crew at KVFD tonight, where they fittingly made meatballs, crab balls, potato balls, and cake balls. It was hilarious and delicious.
I invite you to join me on this journey, of my own healing, and that of helping others. I won't lie. I'm scared shitless, but I am ready to rock and roll and kick cancer's ass.
